Groot and the Wanderers
About a year ago – yes, I know, I haven’t updated my blog in a very long time 😛 – I was lured to the realm of cross-stitching by my fellow crafters at my uni’s Craft Society. It was pretty much the only craft the girls did, and I felt a bit lonely, doing my crochet while the rest cross-stitched and embroidered 😥 So I thought I’d give it a try too, and well… Let’s just say I understand why they were obsessed by it 😀
So my first project was Baby Groot, since it was simple and small, and well. It’s Baby Groot. No other reason needed 😀 I’m a huge MCU fan so that made the choice rather obvious. I didn’t have the best colours for it, so the as you can see the outline is a bit too visible and some of the other details not visible enough. My collection of browns is not that big. But overall I liked my Groot well enough to put him on my wall, so I get to see my first cross-stitch every day 🙂 If you are interested in trying the pattern out yourself, I found Groot on Pinterest – I don’t know who designed it though, so I unfortunately not give credit where it is due.
After that I decided to try something a bit different, and as text and inspirational quotes are very popular in the cross-stitch/embroidery community, I went for it too. It took me quite a while to choose a project, but as I am a big Tolkien fan, the moment I saw this one I couldn’t do anything else. I found the pattern on Etsy, “Not all those who Wander are Lost” by FandomCrossStitchery. The line is from the poem All that is gold does not glitter that opens The Lord of the Rings. I personally interpret the three mountains to be Celebdil, Caradhras and Fanuidhol in the Misty Mountains, under which Moria (aka Kazhad-dûm) is located. And the nine stars are to me the nine of the Fellowship of the Ring who journey towards Lothlórien on rather unconventional paths. (And a certain grey-bearded individual “wandered” too far down and was thought to be lost, only he wasn’t – as the poem says, “The old that is strong does not wither” 😉 )
Yes, I’m a geeky-nerdy craft-girl, no surprise there 😀
